Our parish belongs to the Central Coast Deanery of the Catholic Diocese of Broken Bay, and thus shares a common purpose with our neighbouring parishes, the Diocese, and the whole Catholic Church - to preach the gospel.

Our life is modelled on the words of our patron, St John the Baptist: 'He must increase, I must decrease' (Jn 3:30). We do not preach ourselves, but Christ Jesus (2 Co 4:5).

Where we are

The parish centre is on opposite sides of Blackwall Road, Woy Woy, on the corner of Victoria Road.

Our parish covers what is locally called “The Peninsula”, an area of the Central Coast of New South Wales, surrounded by Brisbane Water and the Brisbane Water National Park.

It is one of the most highly populated areas in the City of Gosford—about 37,000, of whom 10,000, or just under 27%, are Catholics.

It seems miles from anywhere, yet by train it is just over an hour from the centre of Sydney, and slightly more, from Newcastle. Woy Woy Railway Station is one of the busiest in the State.

The main towns are Woy Woy, Umina and Ettalong. There are other centres at Patonga, Pearl Beach, Blackwall,  Koolewong, Tascott, St Hubert's Island, Empire Bay, Horsfield Bay, Woy Woy Bay, Daley's Point, Phegan's Bay and Booker Bay.

These were for a long time isolated fishing and holiday villages, but they are now home to many older people who have retired to the Central Coast, and to many young families who have settled here for a number of reasons, including the relative cheapness of housing and land.
